Hybrid

: A product that occurs from a collision of two separate cultures; elements of one culture absorb and transform elements from another culture (Jenkins 114). The finished media product is a mix of both cultural traditions, yet should also provide satisfactory experiences for each culture separately (Jenkins 114). This is analogous to the defining traits of transmedia storytelling, where different types of media collide to form a more extensive experience.

The hybrid process could be seen in two ways; as a corporate strategy where two cultures combine talents to reach new audiences or as a strategy for dispossessed cultural groups to reinvent Western media and make a story their own (Jenkins 114).

A good example of a hybrid product is the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).
